My Potential Artists:

Ed Sheeran

Demographic

Average Age: Ed Sheeran's fanbase ranges from age because of his style of music. I would say anyone from 14 to someone in there 60's may listen to him.

Number of Children: 0

Occupation: Ed Sheeran is one of the most well known song writers and performers in the world.

Annual Income: It is reported that Ed Sheeran reportedly bring home around £110 million every year.

Education Level: Ed Sheeran dropped out of school at 16 to focus more on his music career.

Lifestyle: Ed Sheeran is believed to have a very calm and music based lifestyle in which he is either at home or touring rather than partying all the time.

Hobbies: Ed's main hobbies consist of song writing, singing and also sports such as football and cricket.

Overview:

Ed Sheeran was born on the 17th of February 1991 making him only 29. Since then Ed Sheeran has grown to become one of the most well known artists in the world gaining over  50 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He began singing in 2004 making him only 13. He also performed in the streets with his guitar hoping to gain some attention which did happen through people online who recognised his talent. His growth and potential continued and then in 2008 he moved to London and began performing in small venues. As time continued, he only got bigger by releasing more songs and gaining even more attention through fans on YouTube. This led to him getting noticed by other artists in which he made friends and also made collaborations  which allowed both fanbases to merge, gaining more fans.

Ed's music mainly comes under the genre's of Pop, Hip Hop and Folk Pop. However, some people may argue he has more genres in his locker which shows how diverse and wide his music talent really is. He also has his own website in which he sells many items such as clothing merchandise, figurines, guitars and more. On the website, he also advertises his recent music videos and also upcoming tours which he also posts on his social media accounts. This is very smart as all together he has millions of followers and would therefore all see when he is touring next, gaining sales.

Also, Ed Sheeran has got a reputation for very well done music videos with multiple of them gaining over a billion views! Also, he seems to follow a similar theme in multiple in which they are very realistic and humble. For example, he never showing loads of money, flashy cars or girls. His videos sometimes consists of them following a character or puts the audience in a situation such as a holiday or wedding. However, one of my favourite videos of his is from the song 'Photograph'. This whole video is a montage of old footage and photos from his childhood. Throughout the video, we follow as Ed gets older and begins his music career. This is  a very wholesome video as we get to see how hard he worked and what he done to get where he is today.

Fanbase: Ed Sheeran's fanbase is a very wide range of people. For example, he has fans all across the world in every country. However, I believe the majority of his fans are based within Great Britain as that is where he is from and can therefore relate to him the most.

Competition: When it comes to competition, there aren't many artists that can compete with Ed, however, the closest artists would be the likes of Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars as they make the same kind of pop music.

Video Analysis:

Camera angles/movement

Within this music video there are many different types of camera angles which help to show the movement and actions of the characters as they box. For example, there are lots of close ups to show the emotion, medium shots to show the workouts and many more. Also, the movement is very fast to match the pace that they are boxing at and also the speed of the song.

Editing styles (fast/slow/parallel)

For this video, I would say the editing style is very fast as it matches the speed of the song and also the speed of the characters boxing. There are many cuts to make it seem like they are training a lot and also to make it seem as if the training is super hard and draining.

CGI/chroma-key/special FX

I wouldn't say there is any CGI used in this video as the video take a much more realistic approach as it tells a story in which nothing using CGI is used.

Diegetic/Non-Diegetic sound

In this video, there really is only non diegetic sound as the only sounds we hear is the actual soundtrack. However, at the very end, there are some short clips with diegetic sound as the song has finished by then.

Genre themes/tropes

For this song, I would say it comes under the genre Hip Hop. This is also seen in the video as it consists of an upbeat video with various activities going on. Also, it kind of follows a romantic theme as it involves two characters meeting and falling in love.

'Mis en scene'

I believe the Mis en scene in this video is done really well as all of the props, outfits and positions of the characters work really well which help to create this super realistic and well done video.

Usage of colour & B/W

Overall, I think the colours of the main video come across as a bit dull/ plain. However, this works well as every so often there is a bright coloured object which catches the attention as it stands out from all of the other colours. An example would be the bright red locker near tye start which could have been placed there to symbol love/ romance.

Lighting

The lighting in this video is done really well as the video opens up with the two characters in a dark and kind of dingy gym. However, all of the equipment and characters are lit up well which helps set the mood. Also, when the two of them meet, there is a lightbulb above them which shows they're the centre of attention. Also, towards the end of the video, there is a large huddle of people in which the centre seems to be lit up for the characters which shows they're the most important characters within the scene.

Logic

Overview

Sir Robert Bryson Hall II (Logic) was born 22nd January 1990 making 30 years old. He is a very well known American rapper, author, streamer, producer and more despite mainly being known for his music. He averages around 12 million monthly listeners just from Spotify. Logic became very interested in rap at the age 13 which shows the dedication and determination he has shown. He would then release his first official and professional mixtape in 2010 and continue to do so. However, he didn't have the best childhood as his parents would both struggle with alcohol and drug addictions. Despite this he continued to peruse his dream and also accomplish it at a young age. Once he put out more music, he gained attention and managed to secure some features on his tracks which would help gain more fans from other artists audience.

Logic's music tends to fall in the genre of Hip Hop and Rap. However, he has made some songs that shows he can do much more than just them two genres. Also, Logic has launched his own website in which he sells his own merchandise and also advertises his tours and concerts which may help gain attention. Another good feature is that he has made his own face masks which he advertises which helps promote him and his business well as everyone needs one now.

When it comes to his music videos, Logic usually likes to go with a narrative based video that matches the story he is telling within the lyrics. These are usually a more meaningful song as he does like to sing/ rap about controversial and sensitive topics such as homophobia, racism and many more. However, he does sometimes film a more hip hop based music video which involves your usual nice houses, cars and women.

Demographic

Average Age: I think it's hard to put a specific age down, so I believe the average fan may be between 14 - 30 years old.

Gender: Male

Number of Children: 1 son

Occupation: A very well known rapper, but also song writer, streamer, author and more.

Annual Income: On average, people believe Logic brings home roughly $4 million dollars every year. Also, his net worth is about $14 million.

Education Level: Logic started skipping school in the tenth grade as he started to fail all of his classes and instead focused on music, getting him kicked out of school.

Living Status: Logic left his home at 17 and instead worked 2 separate jobs to afford food and clothes. When he wasn't at work, he would be working on his music.

Personality: It is reported that logic is a caring and extremely dedicated person who loves his family more than anything which shows he is very selfless.

Lifestyle: Only recently, Logic announced that his sixth album would be his last as he is retiring from the music industry. He may have done this to focus more on his family and overall become a more family man.

Hobbies: When growing up, Logic confirmed he used to smoke a lot of Marijuana to help get through his rough childhood, however, he has since stopped doing so.

Video Analysis

Camera angles/movement

Because of the theme and style of this song, there are lots of long shots, medium shots and also close ups used throughout the whole video. Because it is quite a sad/ emotional song, the close up shot is used a lot to really help empathise the emotion on some of the characters faces. Also, there are lots of medium and long shots used to help set the scene by showing the location and also the movement/ actions of the characters which is a huge part.

Editing styles (fast/slow/parallel)

For this video, I would say the editing style is fairly slow as it needs to match the speed of the song. Therefore, there are some long scenes to really help show the emotion and mood within the scene to help us imagine what it would be like actually being there.

CGI/chroma-key/special FX

There is no CGI used within this video as it takes a very realistic approach and therefore avoiding using it as it is mainly used in unrealistic/ less realistic scenes. I also don't think there is much special FX used within this for the same reason

However, there is also a sad and empathetic theme happening as the sound describes the mental health struggles of a character. Also, the video shows a story of the character going through a very hard situation in his life which makes you feel sorry for him.

'Mis en scene'

I believe the Mis en scene in this video is done really well as all the main features are done well which all add together to make a very realistic and visually appeasing video. For example, the video is set in todays world in America and is easy to tell as all of the costumes and props are very accurate and realistic.

Usage of colour & B/W

Overall, I think the colours used within this video are all rather dull and plain. This could have been done on purpose as it could represent how the character is feeling and also match the sad theme going on within the video.

Lighting

The lighting in this video is done really well as the video always has a strong light source on the main character to help show who the most important character is on screen. Also, when the mood changes in the video, the lighting seems to dim which represents the mood change as it seems darker.

Dave

Demographic

Average Age: In my opinion, I believe the average age for a Dave fan would range anywhere from 14-25

Gender: Male

Number of Children: 0

Occupation: Dave is very well known UK rapper who is also known to produce some songs too

Annual Income: It is estimated that Dave brings home roughly £1.2 Million a year.

Education Level: Compared to many other artists, Dave is actually a very smart person. This is proved as he completed secondary school and even studied law, ethics, philosophy and sound design at a university in London.

Living Status: Dave grew up in south London which is known as a semi dangerous and rough area. I believe Dave still lives within London as he still raps about about the location.

Personality: Dave comes across as a very caring yet sometimes arrogant person. I believe this as in some of his songs, he raps about how he cares for his family but then also how he thinks he is great at everything.

Lifestyle: From research, I think Dave lives a very luxurious lifestyle as he constantly talks about expensive items, going away to exotic locations and many more reasons.

Hobbies: Dave is known to have a few talents. For example, Dave plays a lot of football in his spare time which he shows on his social medias. He also plays instruments such as the piano as shown in his brits performance.

Overview:

David Orobosa Omoregie, also known as 'Dave' was born 5th of June 1998, making him 22 years old. Dave is known to be one the best UK rappers at the moment after releasing hits such as 'Funky Friday', 'Location' and many more. He is also well known for his deep and well though lyrics with multiple meaning and also for his braveness in talking out on sensitive topics such as abusive relationships, racism and more. At this current moment, Dave has over 4.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify. When growing up, Dave was introduced to music and more specifically the piano at age 14 which he practiced and gained a strong liking too. This lead his interest in music to grow which then made him begin to write his own rap lyrics shortly after.

Once he got a little bit older, Dave decided to get into the rap industry by writing and releasing his own songs in 2015. However, he would then go on to release his own freestyles on YouTube which would help him possibly gain some fans. This did infact get him some attention as he then continued to release music and even dropping his own EP in 2016 (Sixth Paths). He then continued to grow, even earning him the chance to play at festivals which he did in 2016, performing alongside another well known artist known as 'AJ Tracy'.

I believe Dave mainly come under the genre Hip Hop and Rap. All of his songs seem either very catchy and fast paced or slower and contain some sort of message within the lyrics. Also, Dave has launched his own website in which he advertises vinyl's of his album, showcases his music videos and also gives details on his future tours. This is great marketing as this gives his audience a way to support and follow him. Plus, he is a large character on social media, gaining millions of followers on each platform and thousands of likes each post, which shows his fanbase is very active and support him a lot.

When it comes to music videos, Dave is known for having very  pleasing videos due to many reasons. For example, he always has a good colour theme going on, matching items, symmetry and many more. His videos also usually consist of expensive cars, models and expensive clothes which targets his audience as he raps about these sort of things in all of his songs.

Video Analysis:

Camera angles/movement

This video as a wide variety of different camera angles and movement types. For example, the video opens up with establishing shots of the location, then shows many medium and long shots to show Dave and some of the expensive things he owns such as a Louis Vuitton Bag. Overall, the range in camera angles help this video to be more exiting and works very well in my opinion.

Editing styles (fast/slow/parallel)

The editing style in this video comes across as very fast paced as it need to keep up with the speed and theme of the song. They do this by having many quick cuts and don't have many shots that go on for too long. This creates a very up beat and energetic song which has grown to be one of the biggest UK rap songs in recent years.

CGI/chroma-key/special FX

In this video, there is no CGI as it is a realistic video of them basically just showing off their goods and lifestyle. However, there are a lot of shots which use special effects to help create a visually pleasing image.  For example, there are many shots which use the mirror effect which make the shot 100% symmetrical which always looks very nice.

Diegetic/Non-Diegetic sound

In this video, there is only non diegetic sound which is the backing track. In my opinion, I believe that if they added some diegetic sound, such as a car revving, it would've worked well and fitted the scene.

Genre themes/tropes

The main genre of this songs comes under Rap and Hip Hop. Therefore, the video should be pleasing to watch, exiting and also follow some sort of character. This is proved in the video as the whole video follows this theme by Dave showing off goods, the use of models to catch the attention of some people and the use of some effects and location to fit the theme.

'Mis en scene'

The Mis en scene in this video works really well as most of it is done by using Dave's everyday things. For example, the outfits worn are all probably clothes that Dave owns which make it realistic. Also, the props used such as cars and accessories fit the scene. In one of the scenes, there is a behind the back shot of Dave wearing a Louis Vuitton bag which has images of birds and a jungle like design on it. The fits the scene well as he is currently in a jungle like setting.

Usage of colour & B/W

The usage of colour is one of the standout parts of the video as in most scenes, Dave is either matching the colours in the background or he is wearing something which stands out to really grab the attention of the audience.

Lighting

The lighting in this video is done really well as no matter the location, the main person in shot is always lit up well and is seen clearly. Also, the setting/ scenery is well lit up and therefore the audience can clearly see what is happening at all times.
